Cosmic Night: (Super) Novas (19+)

What a night it was at the Space Centre for our Cosmic Nights: (Super) Novas! On Thursday, September 19th, we transformed our venue into a stellar playground for adults, complete with drinks, mingling, and a galaxy of activities. A special shout-out to our program partner, TRIUMF, whose collaboration made this cosmic evening even more memorable!

As guests arrived, the excitement was palpable. The Space Centre buzzed with energy as attendees enjoyed expertly crafted drinks and engaged in fascinating discussions. The warm and inviting atmosphere set the stage for a night of fun, exploration, and cosmic discovery.

Attendees at our Cosmic Nights: (Super) Novas were treated to a variety of engaging activities throughout the evening. The gaming corner was alive with laughter as participants challenged each other in space-themed video games, immersing themselves in the vastness of the cosmos. Meanwhile, our painting station provided budding artists the chance to unleash their creativity, capturing the beauty of the universe on canvas. For those seeking a bit of friendly competition, the dartboard became a hub of rivalry, adding to the fun atmosphere of the night.

Live science demo with Head interpreter Matthew

 One of the standout moments of the night at our Cosmic Nights: (Super) Novas event was the live science demonstration by our Head Interpreter, Matthew. With his infectious enthusiasm, he brought the wonders of astrophysics to life through captivating experiments that both entertained and educated attendees. As the evening progressed, guests gathered for a special star theatre show led by Astronomer Rosanna and Interpreter Kynan. Their expert guidance took us on a mesmerizing journey through the night sky while exploring the secrets of the stars. Their passion for astronomy shone brightly, leaving attendees in awe of the universe’s beauty and complexity.

Alan knee – UBC phD Candidate

University of British Columbia PhD Candidate Alan Knee – We were thrilled to welcome guest speaker Alan Knee, a PhD candidate from UBC. Alan shared his fascinating insights in his latest research on novas, captivating the audience with his knowledge and passion for astrophysics. His engaging presentation highlighted the importance of understanding these celestial phenomena, sparking curiosity and discussion among attendees.
